I have osprey's ariel 75 liter backpack and osprey's day-pack named solo. I'm leaving for a backpacking trip to washington/oregon and am having trouble attaching them. Would someone please leave a website address or description that might tell me how to attach them together? Thank you:)

Can I put soda in one of those backpack hydration packs?
You know those little hydration packs that people where for some difficult activites. I was wondering if you could put soda in there. i wonder what would happen. would it damage it, will the fizz cause it to expand. i don't know but i dont want to just start throwing soda in there. Some people might think i'm an idiot for putting soda in there, but i use it for water most of the time.
Yeah, you can, but be prepared for stickiness. I don't reccomend soda as your main source of hydration on a hike though, seeing as it has a high sodium level. If you do put soda in it, make sure to rinse it thoroughly and you'll be all set.

Which school bag should I get for high school? REALLY EASY QUESTION!!!
1. http://shop.pacsun.com/accessories/girls-backpacks/Hot-Wire-Messenger-Tote/index.pro
2. http://shop.pacsun.com/accessories/girls-backpacks/Lucky-Day-Backpack/index.pro
I have a small frame so I am not sure if the messenger bag is right for me.
I am a freshman. So I need to make a good expression. Also, I do NOT shop at Pac-Sun. I just love their backpacks. If I was richer, I would buy all their backpacks and wear them for every day of the week.
It is like an even number of votes. I didn't want to get a Jansport book bag so I wont be called nerd or crap when I'm really not. But, I tried messenger totes and they are OVERsized on me. But the first one is soo cute. I tried totes but I'm a klutz.
Thanks everybody for helping me! I gave everyone a thumbs up. I am choosing the backpack =] Thank you!!!
TWO!
it's prettier, plus, i used a messenger bag first year of high shool and it sucked!
my shoulders hurt sooo bad.

What is necessary to do cross country skiing?
I was just looking at equipment (on the Internet ) , and I was wondering if skis come with ski poles and if a hydration pack is necessary. I know that the boots are. Please answer all questions. Best answer=10 points!
What you need are XC boots, skis, and poles. Make sure you don't get alpine equipment because they're completely different. You will also need clothing to keep you warm. I wear gloves, a winter jacket, winter hat, and snow pants. I like to bring hand warmers, the kind that you open and shake to activate. They work very well. Willie D's list was a little excessive (Not to bash him)... You don't REALLY need that much stuff. Depending on how cautions you want to be, you might want to bring some first aid materials but honestly, I basically ski in the stuff I normally wear plus a jacket, gloves, hat, etc.
If you get into serious skiing, you might buy some wax. There's special wax for gripping the snow and for gliding. The wax isn't really that important and you probably won't use it anyways
You will not really NEED a hydration pack, I wouldn't carry one. It just seems like it gets in the way. Funny thing about skiing, you never really seem to get thirsty.
As to whether skis come with poles, its not always like that. Sometimes you buy a package and the package will include poles, but usually you have to buy poles separately. But don't worry, they don't cost too much in comparison with the skis and boots

Does anyone know what this sport is called? ...?
I remember reading it in my textbook and it got me interested because it's something that I like do to (exploring & hiking).
Basically, it's this sport where all you have is a map, compass, and basic food. The main objective is to visit all points on the map in a quick and safe route (nobody tells how or where each location is). You usually do it in pairs and is mostly held in the forest or mountains. Competing against each other to find the quickest route to all locations/points on the map before the other team does.
It's like an outdoor exploration hike.
It sounds like orienteering except that orienteering is usually done individually not in teams.
In normal orienteering events, competitors start one at a time and visit each of the control points marked on the map in order. Fastest time to complete the course wins. Course lengths typically range from 2 km for sprints to 20 km for long events.
Some events are mass start and instead of starting one at a time, everyone starts at the same time. This adds an element of head to head racing .
In score orienteering, point values are assigned to each control point marked on the map and there is a set time limit. Competitors can go to the control points in any order and try and get as many points as possible in the time limit. There are stiff penalties for not returning before the time expires.
One form of score event which usually does require teams of two is a Rogaine event. It is held over a much larger area, and the time limit is usually 24 hours. (6, 8, 12 hour events also exist). Food is also an issue here since it must be carried with you unless you return to base camp.

Which company makes a better hydration pack: Deuter or Northface?
I am currently living in Taiwan, so my opinions are limited but I am a very active person and do a lot of day hiking and biking through the mountains here. It seems like a good idea to get a Camelbak-like backpack for my longer trips and was wondering if anyone had some input.
Northface, i have gone all around the world with my trusty northface camelback, in the andes, the himalyayas and the pyranees

Best Hiking Backpack?
I will be going on a 50 mile hike over the course of 5 days in about a month and I am looking for a good backpack. I really don't have a lot of money to blow on this so I am looking for a real bargain. I am thinking of the Jansport Klamath 75 which I could get for about $120, the High Sierra Explorer 55 which I could get for about $70, and the Jansport Big Bear 82 Internal Backpack - 2010 Model which I could get for about $68. I am currently leaning towards one of the cheaper two but since I have really looked at the third I threw it in as well. I am looking for some good evidence as to why one might be better and preferably personal experience as well. If you have other recommendations in this price range, that would be great as well. Although I would love to spend $300+ on a pack I really can't justify much more than 100 right now. Any help would be great. Thanks!
i looked at reviews of the three packs you listed.
the explorer is too heavy. 5 pounds plus.
jansport has been making packs for years. i used to have an old frame pack of theirs back in the late 70's. can't say that high sierra is a name i have seen in the higher end packs.
i know the klamath costs the most but it is the best of the three. its only 3 lb. 14 oz. and it's a real good size. it has a separate sleeping bag compartment, more pockets and you can use it on overnighters and week long trips. besides i like 4600 cu in packs. it kind of gives you a limit on how much stuff you can take. to me it's a clean looking pack.
the big bear just a bit heavier and it only has one compartment, but if money is really an issue then this would be number 2.
pick a jansport and you will carry that pack for years.

What's good to eat for breakfast and dinner when out on a camping trip?
I and two other friends are going camping for the first time together (two of us are 18 and the other one is 17) on Wednesday (just for one night) and we're going hiking and boating. We totally forgot about food, though! What would be good breakfast food? I know how to make eggs, toast and anything that involves hot water would be good ha ha.
For dinner I can bring baked beans but I can't really think of anything else to bring for dinner. HELP!!
Depending on how much you want to work, cooking while camping can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. We usually go very easy on our first 3-4 meals, and most of the time, we really only need to eat twice a day.
Our first dinner is always hot dogs, hamburgers, and beaked beans. They are quick and easy and set the camping mood. We usually bring all the fixings, but what you decide to add is up to you.
Our first breakfast is usually a hardy one. You want to set the tone for the day, by ensuring you eat a solid breakfast, with lots of proteins. This will give you the energy you need to get your day off to a good start.
Pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, oatmeal, toast are all good choices.
Lunch is optional. You can go the sandwich route, or you can just being fruits and veggies to snack on. A late night snack of smores is a great way to cap the night (hershey's chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers, with the chocolate and marshmallows melted together over an open fire, and then placed between or on graham crackers is AWESOME!).

What do you do when you're tired of sports?
I'm tired of sports, I've tried running, swimming, cycling, moutain-biking, climbing, rowing, camping, hiking etc. I used to run alone either in the morning or evening regularly, but now I'm just tired of all this all, I don't have any partner or friends and it's very very rare to find a woman like me who love sports. Well tell me what to do? I think i'm getting sick already.
I joined the gym near my home, I saw many aunties and teenagers but none of them were friendly, they were all like do their own business sort of people, I hated that because I'm not like them, I came from a good sporty and friendly Club but the Club which I joined previously was quite a distant away from my home, I have no other way just to run on my own again and again and I'm getting sick
Join an athletics group. It's fun cause you're kind of dancing and burning off the fat and there will be other people with you. It's not fun exercising alone.

HARD FREAKING RIDDLE?
Dusk was gathering as Thomas P. Stanwick, the amateur logician, arrived in Knordwyn at the end of a 15-mile hike. He was fond of visiting the tiny Northumbrian village when he was on vacation in England. About half its inhabitants always lied, and the rest always told the truth. His conversations with them were thus stimulating exercises in deduction. With a sign of relief, Stanwick threw of this backpack and sat down heavily on a bench by the village green. His immediate concern was to find a room for the night. Three villagers were passing just then, and he hailed them. "Excuse me," he asked, "but are there any rooms at the Grey Boar Inn tonight?"
"Yes there are," said the first villager."
"Either no rooms are available," said the second villager, "or he and I are bother liars."
"Either two of us are liars," added the third villager, "or the first fellow is telling the truth."
Who is lying? Is there room at the inn?
The second villager can not be telling the truth. If both are liars, he would not identify both as liars, as that would be the truth. If he alone is a liar, then to state that both are liars leaves the possibility that the first tells the truth. So, both of his statements must be false, with the first of them contradicting the first villager's statement that rooms are available.
The third fellows "either" can be truthful if the first statement is false while the second is truthful.
The first villager stating the truth is consistent with all three villagers statements. So, there must be only one liar, and there are rooms available.

Leather or Kydex sheath?
well just want to know whats better. give me some pros and cons
and for those of you who ask what its for, well im in to hunting, camping, hiking, so yea
thanks for the info
I personally prefer leather because it is more comfortable. BUT, I have to admit, leather will get modly in a humid environment. I've had leather sheathe get white speckles of mold on them when they got damp and were put in a dark place or just a couple of days.
Also, the tanning salts that they use on some leather sheaths will interact with the brass on some knives and turn it green (oxidation). It's not the end of the world, but it's something you have to deal with if you store you knife in your sheath.

How do you assemble a backpack and sleeping bag for camping?
New at camping and hiking. My 12 year old is in Boy Scouts. He has packed light, but the backpack is still so bulky. We can't use a framed backpack because he will have to crawl through some low areas and push his stuff through the opening. I know there must be an easy way to put it all together. The load has to be light enough for a 12 year old child to carry on a caving expedition. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!
I'm 14 and started when I was 12. I live in Alaska, so this may not be what you're looking for, but I'll do my best. First, I always try to bring the smallest and lightest bag that I have that works for the coldest it should get. You can always layer up if you get cold. Also, internal frames are good, except for that you'll need to put most items on the inside from what I've experienced. Go through your pack when you're done packing to make sure that there's nothing that you don't need or is worth its weight. One extra tip- Use some clothes as a pillow, as it keeps them warm when it's cold and doesn't take extra space.

What's the best internal frame 45-55L backpack for shorter women?
Hi I'm looking for an internal frame women's backpack. I plan to backpack through Europe this summer for about 2.5 months. I live in an area where there isn't many stores geared toward backpacking. The few I have gone to do not carry backpacks for someone of my stature and the backpacks I have tried on fits awkwardly. I had my torso measured and it's about 15 inches. I'm also 5ft tall so many of the backpacks I tried on are a bit long. Can someone recommend a backpack for me? Oh I'm also a student so I'm hoping to keep the price between $100-$150 although I'm willing to put out a little more if it means a better backpack.
The "REI Flash 50" is a good pack,
but the "Granite Gear Women's Nimbus Meridian Ki" is a better pack.
