What kind of hiking backpack should i get?
Some friends and I are going on a 3-4 day hiking trip in the Appalachian mountains, and I need to buy a good backpack for it. My price range is about $150. I don't really wanna go over that by very much. I want a backpack that has an internal frame, and also that is going to fit me properly (Im 6 foot 9 inches and not very wide). Obviously im gunna need to be able to carry my sleeping bag and tent along with about 3 days worth of food. Im not too worried about its capacity though, because im a very efficient packer. Also I have a CamelBak hydration backpack, and I've heard that some hiking backpacks are made to be compatible with hydration packs (I assume that just means there's a place for you to put the reservoir in the hiking back pack), so I'd like for it to be hydration pack compatible. As i know very little about hiking backpacks, any tips on what kinds would properly fit my needs would be much appriciated

Difference between "internal"/"external" frames backpacks? Difference between cubic inch and litres volume?
I plan to go on a month long backpacking expedition.
What are the most comfortable largest backpacks available?
I just need one that is comfortable to carry and really huge.
Preferable around US$100 or below.
I am a medium framed lady standing 5 feet and 4 inches (1.66cm)

cheapest packs are going to be external frames
internal frame is basically a pack bag with shoulder straps and waist belt - the "frame" is usually 2 stays made of aluminum or plastic that run up through the padded back of pack - the part that goes against your back - to distribute the load and help get it down into your waist belt - you carry most of the weight on your hips and not your shoulders - big ones are 4,000 cu inch or 80 liters - don't have the conversion factor handy - good ones cost probably $250 and up
external frame packs ar exactly that - should straps and waist belt are attached to aluminum or plastic frame
pack bag is then attached to frame
externals are cheaper, easier to fit, more adjustable, and you tend to walk more upright, and you can attach bulky gear to outside
highly recommend external for beginner on a budget
internals have everything inside, you have to know how to adjust, and they cost more - but more are made specifically to fit women

I need Botox at 28! Is this normal?! How much is it per shot?
I am 28, and rather depressingly, i really need botox.
I have a really obvious vertical frown line between my eyes from years of sunbathing, and it's making me totally sad and self concious about my looks.
I had very young looking skin all through my 20s, and do still look young, but in certain light i can just see this full-on crease, a dent in my forehead and it stresses me out! I did a lot of backpacking in very hot countries in my late teens to mid 20's and completely baked my poor little skin...Yeah, it looked gorgeous and sultry at the time, but i guess i'm paying for it now. I want to stop it getting any worse, but don't have much money right now, and am not entirely sure how many shots of botox it would take to smooth it - I also dont know if you are charged by each individual shot of botox, or by the area. Please help, it would change my life to have a smooth line free forehead again!! x

Botox can range from around £150-£350 per area treated and it lasts for only 3/4 months.
I have tried a lot of alternative products on my clients (as i am only 19 and fortunately line free) and a have found that Protox 20 cream is a really good alternative to botox. After 30 days use it can reduce line depth dramatically. It is £65 but definately worth it.
As an alternative look for products that contain vitamin E, keratin or makuna honey as the properties of these ingredients are full of antioxidents that dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles.

How do you assemble a backpack and sleeping bag for camping?
New at camping and hiking. My 12 year old is in Boy Scouts. He has packed light, but the backpack is still so bulky. We can't use a framed backpack because he will have to crawl through some low areas and push his stuff through the opening. I know there must be an easy way to put it all together. The load has to be light enough for a 12 year old child to carry on a caving expedition. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!
I'm 14 and started when I was 12. I live in Alaska, so this may not be what you're looking for, but I'll do my best. First, I always try to bring the smallest and lightest bag that I have that works for the coldest it should get. You can always layer up if you get cold. Also, internal frames are good, except for that you'll need to put most items on the inside from what I've experienced. Go through your pack when you're done packing to make sure that there's nothing that you don't need or is worth its weight. One extra tip- Use some clothes as a pillow, as it keeps them warm when it's cold and doesn't take extra space.

Whats the difference between a backpack and a book bag?
I'm looking for a new backpack for school, and the website I'm on has 2 categories: Backpacks and Book bags. I don't see any difference I just thought it was 2 different names for one thing. Is there a difference?
Well I'm not positive but I'm guessing that a backpack is any little sack that you put on your back, and is not necessarily meant for carrying books and other similar items. I think that a book bag is meant for that; perhaps a book bag, unlike a backpack has specific sections for your books and other school supplies and stuff?

What's the best internal frame 45-55L backpack for shorter women?
Hi I'm looking for an internal frame women's backpack. I plan to backpack through Europe this summer for about 2.5 months. I live in an area where there isn't many stores geared toward backpacking. The few I have gone to do not carry backpacks for someone of my stature and the backpacks I have tried on fits awkwardly. I had my torso measured and it's about 15 inches. I'm also 5ft tall so many of the backpacks I tried on are a bit long. Can someone recommend a backpack for me? Oh I'm also a student so I'm hoping to keep the price between $100-$150 although I'm willing to put out a little more if it means a better backpack.
The "REI Flash 50" is a good pack,
but the "Granite Gear Women's Nimbus Meridian Ki" is a better pack.

What are the differences between military-style backpacks and commercial backpacks for hiking/trekking?
Hi guys,
Anyone knows what is the major differences between military-style backpacks as sold at army surplus stores, compared to those commonly sold at sporting goods stores for hiking/ trekking/ mountaineering?
Any special design considerations/features/functionalities for military style field packs?
btw, just to add to my discussion, if I intend to use a military-style backpack (perhaps better ones such as Blackhawk) for my overseas travel, any tip on locking it up or securing it?
I notice that some backpack compartments are secured using the black plastic snap-on clips, which obviously cannot be locked up using padlocks like typical luggage cases.
What are some techniques that backpackers use to secure their backpacks from theft and insertion of illegal items by smugglers perhaps at hotel/airport/custom?
Any comments welcome.
The military backpacks are made of heavier materials to stand up to lots of dragging, tossing and unusual wear. For the average backpacker or traveler this is usually overkill. They're also designed to be cost effective and so are unlikely to be made of the latest, lightest, strongest materials. If you're backpacking or traveling and have the money a lighter 'pack is always preferable to a heavy one. They're also overpriced. Taking all those things into consideration I have written off military gear for backpacking ever since I began backpacking.
As for traveling, it's best to buy a duffel bag to carry your backpack, to keep the straps and everything out of the way. If you're really paranoid there's a steel mesh backpack cover that will prevent slashing robberies.

What kind of bag is best for a college student?
I'm going to college in the fall as a commuter student, and the campus of my college is HUGE. I'll be hiking all over the place. My question is, what type of bag should I use to carry my stuff? A rolling backpack, a sling bag, a messenger bag, a regular old backpack. I have to carry not only books, but a laptop as well. Keep in mind that I also have back problems, so I'm looking for something that won't make them worse. If you could post links to suggestions, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks in advance! :]]

No water in house. Well system. Any suggestions?
Had zero pressure reading yesterday as temps droped to single digits. Well system T's off under the house in a crawl space and the pressure gage is attached to that as well as the bladder tank. Once I got some heat down there, the pressure rose back up to approx. 75psi., but there is still no water coming out in the house. Frozen elsewhere? Or is there something else that needs to be done. There is also a well pump switch in the crawl space. I did toggle that and wondering if that would upset the pump? Checked the breaker for the well pump and every thing seems in good shape. Water comes into the house and heated by a boiler.
Don`t know what your water circuit diagram looks like but if you got 75psi there soudn`t be any air in the system. The pump must be working so there must be an obstruction somewhere. Is there a valve that closed when the system shut off? did you loose any dirt when you prodded around with things?
Single digits F or C? If F, it`s most likely frozen. Just look to a means of thawing, pray that it hasn`t burst any pipes and make sure that you protect from frost in the future.

Is this a good backpack for long distance hiking?
Plan on hiking all 3 trails.. starting with the appalachian next spring. the pacific crest and continental divide.. all thru hikes.. i need a good backpack is this one good?

That's a good backpack, but for a thru hiker, that's way too big. If you need a sack that big, you're bringing too much crap (ok for smaller hikes, but not the AT). Aim for 50L or below (I'd use a 40L pack, others use even smaller). Which hydration pack should I get for snowboarding?
I would like to pick up a hydration pack for when I go snowboarding. I'd like one that has the bladder and the hydration straw already with it. I'd also like it to have the ability for me to strap my snowboard on it so I could hike up to the bowls a bit easier. I also would (preferably) like to not spend a fortune on it either. Thanks in advance folks
I use a Camelback brand hydration pack.

They work great for me. I use it for mountain biking in the summer and snowboarding/hiking in the winter. You will probably have to shop around a little to find the best deal.

what would be a good choice for a backpack which has a removable day pack?

Well, you are gonna have to try on the pack at the store to make sure it fits well, but i've been looking for the same thing myself and i have found a lot of good reviews for the Osprey Aether 70, you can get a day pack for it and i believe it is a clip on.http://www.ospreypacks.com/Packs/AetherSeriesMens/Aether70/
